Mexican artist Ricardo Solis creates amusing paintings that playfully illustrate how animals are created. In the whimsical works, viewers become witness to an imaginative process that explains how a zebra gets its stripes, how a leopard gets its spots, or how a flamingo gets its colorful pink feathers.

Beautifully composed, yet incomplete animal forms are surrounded by tiny human figures that work to build each creature's colourful details, feathers, stripes, or spots. Solis uses oil along with black Indian ink or Chinese ink on canvas to capture interesting textures of paper combined with the newly created forms. (via BeautifulDecay)
